What Is an SEO Strategy – and Why You Might Already Be Doing It

If you've ever felt confused by the phrase “SEO Strategy,” you’re not alone. It gets thrown around by web designers and marketing agencies like it’s some mysterious dark art — but it’s actually something many tradespeople are already doing. You just might not call it that (yet).

🔍 SEO Strategy: What It *Actually* Means

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. It’s all about helping your website and content appear higher up when someone Googles something relevant to your business. A proper “SEO strategy” is just a plan to do that consistently.

Here’s what the standard agency SEO strategy usually includes:

  • ✅ Keyword Research (what are your customers searching for?)
  • ✅ Content Creation (blog posts, videos, pages that answer those searches)
  • ✅ On-page Optimisation (titles, headings, image names, links, descriptions)
  • ✅ Link Building (getting other websites to link to your site)
  • ✅ Tracking (checking which content brings in traffic or leads)

🛠 But If You’re Doing This… You’re Already On It

Here’s what I’m doing for my own business (and it works for tradespeople too):

  • 🎥 Creating helpful YouTube videos showing how I solve problems
  • 📝 Writing blog posts with clear, useful answers to common questions
  • 🔗 Linking everything together — blog, YouTube, my website, and my Google Business Profile
  • 🏷 Using labels and categories like “Admin for Electricians” and “Bookkeeping for Carpenters in London”
  • 📆 Publishing consistently — 2 posts per week, 104 across the year

That is an SEO strategy. Simple. Repeatable. Trades-friendly.

🎯 Why This Matters for You

If you’re a one-man band or small team, this system works:

  • 💸 No expensive agency fees
  • 💬 Builds trust with your audience (especially if you’re on camera)
  • 🔧 Shows your knowledge, work quality, and personality
  • 📈 Grows your visibility on Google — especially locally

And you can start small: even 1 post per month can make a difference over time.
