Why I Don't Want More "Free" Time

Why I Don't Want More "Free" Time

Let’s get this straight from the start: If I wanted more "free" time, I’d get a job, go on holiday, or live off grid in a cabin with no emails.

But I chose to run a business. Not because I wanted to work less…

But because I wanted to build something that works smarter, grows stronger, and gives me more time for the work that actually matters.

Time Back? Yes. But Not to Sit Around.

The idea that business owners want more “free time” sounds lovely — but most of us didn’t set up shop to nap on a sun lounger. We do it because we enjoy the work, the graft, the challenge… and because we like being in charge of our own ship (even if it’s occasionally sinking).

Don't get me wrong — I like the occasional break (usually to recharge), and I love time with my family. But can’t I get them involved in the business too? I'd rather have a shared purpose (theirs or mine) than sit apart from it all.

What I really want — and what we give to our clients at BlueWood Office — is more time for higher-value work.

Not admin. Not chasing invoices. Not fiddling with Google logins.

Higher-value work means:

  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Estimating properly
  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Improving how the business runs
  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Looking after clients and getting referrals
  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Knowing your numbers and driving the business, not always the combi-drill!
  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Building something that works without constant firefighting

Stop Trying to Do It All Yourself

Most tradespeople are doing everything — and burning out in the process. If that’s you, it’s time to stop being a one-person army and start building a proper business team.

Not just a virtual assistant. A proper team. ICT, admin, bookkeeping, marketing — all sorted under one roof.

And yes, we make it easy. Even if you’ve never delegated before, we’ll help you hand over the bits that are holding you back.
